Afera technical seminar
Afera 1st Global Adhesive Tape Summit a success, adhesive tape industry annual conference in Greece launched
Afera, the European Adhesive Tape Association, announced today the resounding success of its 1st Global Adhesive Tape Summit, which boasted a sold-out programme of market and technical lectures, a company visit of Neenah Gessner GmbH, and biennial international test method and standards committee meetings.
Themed “Relationships and drivers in the tape business: creating and leveraging technology, markets, processes, value and opportunities,” the Summit saw the attendance of more than 230 tape-related company delegates, including a significant number of CEOs and heads of R&D, from 15 European countries including Turkey, plus China, India, Israel, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, U.A.E and the U.S. Afera members made up about 71% of the participants, 43 from Afera member tape manufacturers and 104 from member suppliers of raw materials, machines and packaging.
“The sheer amount of information shared in the lectures and the quality of the papers and speakers probably made this the best business event I have ever experienced,” commented Evert Smit, Summit host, Afera Technical Committee chairman and presidential nominee, and head of R&D at Lohmann GmbH & Co. KG.
“The strongest idea that I am coming away with is that we are all in this industry together—manufacturers, suppliers, converters,” Mr. Smit continued. “Not only will we have to co-operate and to create together in order to survive, but we are going to have to be more transparent in everything we do, and in many ways, this begins at an event such as the Summit.” ... read the full release
Open to all tape industry professionals, the unique Technical Seminar is a biennial 2-day event aimed at updating technical and operational managers and directors on the cutting-edge technical issues and innovations driving the adhesive tape market. It is developed as a return event. In alternate years of the Tape College, the TS is held in Europe’s accessible capital and has been a success since its launch in 2002.
Particular recruitment emphasis is placed on adhesive tape manufacturers and R&D personnel across the adhesive value chain, and in 2015, possibly mechanical, design, and electronics engineering students. “We developed the event as a technical forum for the European adhesive tape industry, motivated by the belief that better communication among tape manufacturers (including SMEs), raw materials and machine suppliers, converters, end users, international counterparts, and possibly engineering students, in the form of sharing and learning the latest information about technical advancements from experts, is key to growing the market for individual players and as a whole,” says former Afera Technical Committee Chairman Lutz Jacob.
Based on positive feedback, the seminar programme is built around 4 half-day sessions and approximately 20 presentations of papers, with panel discussions following each of the sessions. Presentations are made by technical experts from distinguished adhesive-tape-related companies, suppliers, converters, and research and trade organisations, and cover the latest in scientific innovation or hot technical topics and trends, usually including: product and technology developments; substrates, adhesives and materials science; processing advances; cost efficiency and effectiveness; quality assurance and control; market data processing; end users/market segments; visionary planning; trends; case study results; and legislation.
In addition to providing a unique educational opportunity to participants, the TS serves to create and maintain lines of communication within the adhesive tape industry. Ample opportunity for networking outside of the lectures is scheduled into the event. Current Afera Technical Committee Chairman Evert Smit emphasises that in a European industry “driven through technical innovation and speed of development,” TS attendees are provided with the knowledge and interaction they need to cope better with the rapidly changing demands of customers.
